
Mercer Rolls To 22-7 Win Over Stetson

DELAND, Fla. - The Mercer women's lacrosse team picked up its second consecutive win on the road Wednesday evening with a dominant 22-7 win over Stetson from the Athletic Training Center in DeLand, Florida.
Despite a slow start that saw the Bears in an early 3-0 hole, Mercer responded by outscoring the Hatters, 22-4 the rest of the way to move to 2-3 on the season.
Mercer outshot Stetson 44-18, including a 28-16 shots on goal advantage. The draw controls saw Mercer have a slight edge winning 17 draws to 14 for Stetson.. Mercer's offense was well balanced once against as for the second straight game 13 different Mercer players accounted for the Bears' 22 goals. No player had more than three goals for the Bears.
Sofia D'Angelo was the only Mercer player to score a hat trick. Ayla Galloway had a game high 10 draw controls. Mackenzie Ward played just over 50 minutes in goal for the Bears and made eight saves and finished with a .571 save percentage. Gracie Ochoa and Casey Gilbert scored their first career goals in the fourth quarter.
HOW IT HAPPENED
It took the Bears a while to get things going as Stetson jumped on the Bears early at home and took a 3-0 lead in the opening four minutes of the game. Abby Vane and Caroline Glus scored to get the Bears within one as Stetson led 3-2 after the first quarter.
Maya Maldonado, Glus and Josie Parrett scored within the first five minutes of the second quarter to give the Bears a 5-3 lead. After Stetson got one back to make it 5-4, Ansley Walters scored less than one minute later. After Reaghan Lomascola scored Mercer's seventh goal, the Bears would score four goals in the final 1:35 of the half and take a 10-4 lead into halftime.Â
D'Angelo and Gabby Brisbin scored less than one minute apart early in the second half to extend Mercer's lead to 12-4. D'Angelo scored two goals in the middle of the third quarter to earn her hat trick and give Mercer a 15-5 lead. Brisbin would then score her second goal of the game and Mercer took a 16-6 lead into the fourth quarter.
The Bears did not take their foot off the gas in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Hatters, 6-1 with Gracie Ochoa and Casey Gilbert scoring their first career goals. Harmony Hall scored two goals in the quarter as well for her first two goals of the season.

Mercer continues its 5-game road trip on Saturday as the Bears will stay in Florida and head over to Gainesville to play No. 7 Florida on March 7. The game is scheduled for a 12 p.m. start.
