
Mercer Falls On Road To No. 7 Florida

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The Mercer women's lacrosse team dropped its game on the road to No. 7 Florida, 23-9, Saturday afternoon from Donald R. Dizney Stadium in Gainesville, Florida.
Despite a bit of a slow start for the Gators, Florida eventually caught fire offensively and used a 10-2 first quarter lead to finish out a 23-9 win.
Florida outshot Mercer, 43-25 and had a 27-15Â edge in shots on goal. The Gators had a decisive advantage in draw controls winning 25 draws to seven for Mercer. Mercer had arguably its best game in terms of successful clears and turnovers. The Bears were a perfect 13-for-13 on clears and had a season low four turnovers.
Sofia D'Angelo and Caroline Glus led Mercer on the offensive end with three goals each. Sophomore midfielder Ryanne Swords led Mercer with two caused turnovers. Mackenzie Ward made seven saves in goal for the Bears.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Sofia D'Angelo scored the first goal of the game and after a pair of goals from Florida, Josie Parrett tied the game at two with just under nine minutes to play in the first quarter. However, Florida would close the quarter on an 8-0 run to take a 10-2 lead after the first quarter.
Ansley Walters and Caroline Glus each scored their first goals of the game to make it 13-4, Florida. Once again, the Gators would close the quarter strong, using a 4-0 run to take a 17-4 halftime lead.
In the third quarter, Glus and D'Angelo each scored their second goals of the game as each team scored just twice in the quarter as Florida led 19-6 going to the fourth quarter.
After the Gators opened the scoring with a goal from Ava Tighe, Mercer responded by scoring the next three goals, with Gabby Brisbin scoring her lone goal of the game and D'Angelo and Glus each registering their hat tricks. Florida scored the next three goals of the game to come away with a 23-9 win.
NOTABLES
Mercer returns home for the first time in over a month as the Bears host Arizona State on Saturday, March 7. The game is scheduled for a 2Â p.m. start from Five Star Stadium.
