
Mercer Falls On Road To Wofford, 5-2

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Mercer women's tennis team dropped its match to Wofford, 5-2, Wednesday afternoon from the Reeves Tennis Center in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
In doubles, Wofford's Grace Agster and Quinn Bernthal defeated Marina de Diego Quinones and Ines Hömberg, 6-1 on court one. Katie Godfree and Marie Henriksen of Wofford defeated Marie Bannmeyer and Jelena Gojkovic, 6-4 to clinch the doubles point for the Terriers. Mercer won the last doubles match on court two as Tea Zivic and Sofiya Tsitavets won, 6-4 over Wofford's Chloe Elliott and Ella Suk.
In singles action, Woffords' Katie Godfree defeated Tea Zivic, 6-2, 6-1 on court three. On court one, Grace Agster of Wofford defeated Marina de Diego Quinones, 6-2, 6-3 to give the Terriers a 3-0 lead.
Ella Suk clinched the match for Wofford on court four with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Marie Bannmeyer. In the other singles matches, Wofford's Chloe Elliott was able to win a close first set against Ines Hömberg before finishing the match in the second set for a 7-5, 6-1 win over Hömberg.
The last two singles matches went three sets. On court six, despite dropping the first set, Antonia Schweigel came back to earn a 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 win over Wofford'sÂ
Marie Henriksen.
The last match of the day was a three set hard fought battle between Sofiya Tsitavets and Quinn Bernthal of Wofford. Each set went to a tiebreaker and ultimately Tsitavets came out on top with a 7-6(6), 6-7(5), 1-0(5) win.
Mercer will conclude its regular season on Sunday with Senior Day. The Bears will play UNCG at 11 a.m. from the Copelan Tennis Complex.
