MACON – The Mercer track & field team will hit the road again on Friday and Saturday when the Bears load up and head to southeast Alabama for the Troy-hosted Doc Anderson Multi & Invitational at the Troy Soccer Complex.
Â
The Bears will open up their portion of competition at the two-day event on Friday at 6:15 p.m. ET with both the 200m Dash and the 400m Hurdles, and will conclude opening-day action at 7 p.m. in the Long Jump. MU is slated to compete in six disciplines on Saturday, beginning with the Triple Jump at 1:30 p.m. and commencing with the 4x400m Relay at 6 p.m.
Â
Mercer is coming off of a solid performance at the Mississippi State-hosted Alumni Bulldog Relays last weekend. Sophomores Naomi Pierce and Jayla Simmons registered a 1-2 finish in the Long Jump competition and the 4x100m Relay squad finished seventh in a strong season debut to highlight action. Three different Bears established at least one personal best across the two days of competition at MSU's Mike Sanders Track Complex
Â
The distance squad was equally as impressive at the Emory Thrills In The Hills. Junior Emma James eclipsed the school record in the 1500m Run by more than four seconds, while three Bears finished among the top 6 in the 3000m Steeplechase.
Â
Mercer is scheduled for a full weekend of action next weekend, April 10-11. The sprinters, jumpers and hurdlers will head to Tampa, Fla., for the USF Invitational, while the distance squad is scheduled to compete at the Duke Invitational in Durham, N.C.
