MACON – After a three-hour rain delay, and a thirty-minute sprinkler delay, the Mercer men's soccer team dropped its Thursday night contest against UNCW, 1-0, at Betts Stadium.

Thursday night's match was originally scheduled for 5:00 p.m., but inclement weather in the area kept the teams off the field until 8:00 p.m. The two squads battled fiercely, and UNCW's Bryan Miralrio scored the match's only goal in the 79th minute.

Henry Hampshaw recorded four saves and pushed his season total to 11 before the Seahawks found the back of the net when Miralrio's shot took a deflection off a Mercer defender.

Three of the Bears' five shots were on target. Seven members of Mercer's starting eleven completed the full 90 minutes. Eli Bannister, AJ Pama and Ehi Aimiuwu anchored the Bears' back line throughout the entire contest. Manza Masamuna made his first appearance since suffering an injury within the first five minutes of the Bears' season opener and did not exit the pitch until the final whistle sounded. Mackane Parkman made his collegiate debut and logged 74 minutes.

Mercer defends Betts Stadium once again on Monday, August 31, against UAB (0-1-1). The Blazers are in search of their first win after tying their season opener, 1-1, with Lipscomb and falling to Georgia State, 1-0, this past Tuesday. All regular season matches at home are free of admission.
