Hampshaw Named SoCon Defensive Player Of The Week

MACON – Senior goalkeeper Henry Hampshaw was named the Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the week of September 1-7, the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Hampshaw put on a keeper's clinic this past Friday against Belmont and saved eight of the Bruins' nine shots on goal. Hampshaw's night consisted of plenty of highlights, but the headliner was his save on Belmont's 80th-minute penalty that kept the Bruins off the scoreboard. The match resulted in a 1-1 draw due to Belmont's second penalty of the night in the 88th minute.

Tuesday's honor marks the second time Hampshaw has been named the SoCon Defensive Player of the Week since transferring to Mercer ahead of the 2025 season. The Holmfirth, England, native currently has the 12th-most saves in the country and is tied for the lead in the SoCon with 22 total saves through the first five matches.

Hampshaw and the Bears travel to Georgia State on Wednesday, September 9. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the GSU Soccer Complex in Atlanta, Georgia.
