Rebecca Congel joined the Mercer women's lacrosse program in August 2024. Congel joined Mercer after a head coaching stint at Carthage College, a Division III program in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

Congel spent the last three seasons at Carthage. Her first two seasons she served as the team's assistant coach and defensive coordinator and was named Interim Head Coach during the 2023 season. Following the 2023 season, Congel was named head coach and led the team's strength and conditioning program.

In her lone season as head coach of Carthage in 2024, Congel led the Firebirds to a second-place finish in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) with an 11-7 record and 4-2 record in conference play. Congel was named 2024 CCIW Coach of the Year.

Last season under Congel, Carthage ranked second in the conference in goals per game (16.0), shots per game (30.83), and points per game (21.33). Carthage also finished the regular season leading the conference or ranking second in other statistical categories including draw control percentage (.529), saves percentage (.485), and turnovers per game (16.75).

As an assistant coach in 2022, Congel helped lead Carthage to its best season in program history as the Firebirds went 16-3 overall and broke many of the program's single-season statistical records. Congel coached six CCIW All-Conference players and a First-Year Student-Athlete of the Year in 2024.

Congel was hired by Carthage in October of 2021 after spending two seasons as the head coach for the Summit Crimson team at Summit Lacrosse Club. During her time there, Congel implemented practice plans and game strategies, assisted in recruiting with college coaches, evaluated prospective athletes, maintained communication with athletes and current staff, and held yearly evaluations of players.Â
Congel graduated from her hometown school of Syracuse University with a Bachelor of Science in Child and Family Studies in 2017. She was a two-sport athlete at Syracuse, as she played field hockey and lacrosse. While on the field hockey team from 2013-15, the team made two NCAA and ACC tournament appearances while making it to the National Championship game in 2015.Â
As a member of the lacrosse team from 2015-17, the team made an NCAA and ACC tournament appearance.
