Kelan Burns is in his first season in 2023 as a graduate assistant for the Mercer women's volleyball team.
Burns, a native of Deerfield, Illinois joins the Bears after graduating from Purdue University in 2023 with a bachelor's degree in Biomedical Science.
While at Purdue, Burns was a practice player for the Boilermakers women's volleyball team from 2020-2023. He also was a student manager for the team for the 2020-21 season.
The Purdue volleyball team saw great success during Burns' time with the team as they made the NCAA Tournament in three different seasons including reaching the Sweet 16 in the 2020-21 season and the Elite 8 in 2021.
Burns graduated from Deerfield High School in 2019 where he played on the men's volleyball team. As a senior in 2019, he was a captain, All-State Honorable Mention, All-Area First Team, and All-Conference First Team player.
He had a 43.0 percent kill percentage and hit percentage of .271 in high school.
Kelan's parents are Kathleen and Michael Burns. He has four siblings: Tara, Patrick, Colleen, and Brenna.
