Before joining Bob Hoffman in Macon, Mark Osina guidedWeatherford (Texas) College to an impressive seven North TexasJunior College Athletic Conference championships, one regionaltitle, a National Junior College Athletic Association nationaltournament berth and one NJCAA Final Four appearance. Weatherfordalso made 14 NTJCAC appearances during his tenure.
After taking the helm of the Weatherford program in 1991,Osina's teams compiled an impressive overall record of 325-194(.626) through the 2007-08 season. His Coyote squads garnered threenational scoring titles while he guided seven NJCAA All-Americaselections.
Osina also stressed hard work in the classroom while at the helmof the program, as his players collected eight NJCAA AcademicAll-America honors.
In addition to coaching, Osina also taught physical educationclasses and served as Chairman of Weatherford's Physical EducationDepartment.
Before taking the reins at Weatherford, he coached at the highschool level for 13 seasons in the Lone Star state, with stints atLeander, Waller, Killeen Ellison and South Houston high schools.
Osina was a finalist for the National Coach of the Year award in1999 after being named Region V Coach of the Year, and he earnedConference Coach of the Year accolades five times, including the2007-08 award after leading the Coyotes to a 24-6 record and theNTJCAC championship.
Osina played basketball at Pasadena High School, earningall-district honors as both a junior and senior under Bob McKinley.He then attended Houston Baptist University on a basketballscholarship from 1973-1977, also under McKinley, and was afour-year starter at forward.
Mark and his wife, Liz, have been married for 32 years. They arethe proud parents of two daughters, Lacey and Emily. Emily playedfor the Weatherford Lady Coyotes and the University of New Orleans.
In December of 1998, their 17 year-old daughter, Lacey, andthree of her friends, Staci Lee, Mandi McWhorter, and Whitney Welchwere killed in a fatal car accident.
Scholarship funds at Weatherford College and the Brock ISD havebeen established in the girls' honor.
