SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Mercer University men's soccer team registered its first draw of the season, a 1-1 decision, at Wofford on Saturday night.
TURNING POINT
Jordan Duru scored for the Bears in the 43rd minute after receiving a pass from Nickolas Tripodi. Tripodi stepped in and took the ball away from a Wofford player around midfield, just inside Mercer's offensive half. He then dribbled down the field before sending the ball to Duru, who was just outside the corner of the box on the left side of the net. Duru sent the ball to the right corner of the net, past the Wofford keeper who had come out of the goal.
Mercer held on to its 1-0 lead and looked to have the game in hand, but Wofford scored a goal with 29 seconds remaining in regulation after a Terrier shot was deflected into the goal by a Mercer defender. The game went to overtime and neither team was able to net a goal in the 20 additional minutes.
MAN OF THE MATCH
Jordan Duru led Mercer with four shots, and scored the Bears' only goal of the game. He was also one of five players to play the entire 110 minutes of the match.
STAT OF THE GAME
Wofford outshot Mercer, 16-8, but only held a 5-3 shots on goal advantage.
