
Women's Lacrosse Edged by Campbell, 14-13

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Lindsey Zeltwanger led the Bears with three goals and two assists as the Mercer women's lacrosse team was edged by Campbell, 14-13, on Tuesday at Barker-Lane Stadium.
Hannah Bair also scored three goals, while Zeltwanger added two ground balls. Kate Leone notched two goals and two assists, and Kate Christian tallied two goals, an assist and two draw controls. Audrey Allen, Tori Blakeman and Erica Coyne also found the back of the net for the Bears, and Meghan Segreti and Holly Berns each dished out an assist.
Segreti led Mercer with four draw controls, while Allen and Marisa Agganis each grabbed three draw controls. Fiona Stockton recorded a team-high three caused turnovers and also had three ground balls and two draw controls. In goal, Haleigh Wurzel made 13 saves and also dug up a team-leading six ground balls.
"Nobody is ever happy with a loss, but what I was proud of today was the strength, determination and fight our team showed on the field," said Head Coach Eve Levinson. "Unfortunately, it didn't go in our favor this time, but any time you can push a more established team to the brink like we did, you have ot feel pretty satisfied with the effort."
Campbell (2-5) worked its way to a 5-1 advantage with 16:38 left in the first half before Mercer (2-2) scored four straight to tie the game, 5-5, with 6:18 remaining until halftime. The Bears outscored the Camels 3-2 in the final 3:19 of the half to take a narrow 8-7 advantage into intermission.
The second period started with some back-and-forth, before Zeltwanger scored twice in 48 seconds to give Mercer a 12-10 lead with 21:51 on the clock. Campbel used a 4-0 run to retake the lead, 14-12, with just under 10 minutes to play. The Bears cut the lead back to one, 14-13, off a goal from Coyne with 6:17 to go, but neither team scored again as the Camels held on to the one-goal advantage.
Mercer will wrap up its two-game road trip on Friday, March 13 at Longwood in Farmville, Va. The opening draw is set for 3 p.m.
