
Women's Lacrosse Defeated by Longwood

FARMVILLE, Va. – Kate Christian scored a team-high two goals as the Mercer women's lacrosse team was defeated, 15-5, by Longwood on Friday afternoon.
Lindsey Zeltwanger, Tori Blakeman and Shea Butler also scored for Mercer, while Marisa Agganis dished out the Bears' only assist.
Fiona Stockton grabbed a team-leading four draw controls and added a ground ball and a caused turnover. Haleigh Wurzel made a season-high 18 saves and led the Bears with five ground balls, and Zeltwanger dug up four of her own in addition to a draw control and a caused turnover. Agganis notched a team-leading two caused turnovers, as well as two ground balls and a draw control.
Longwood (2-5) opened the game with three goals in under five minutes, and scored a total of six goals before Zeltwanger found the back of the net and put Mercer (2-3) on the board with 9:38 remaining in the first half. The Lancers scored two more goals before halftime to lead 8-1 at intermission.
The Lancers continued to score in the second half, taking a 15-2 advantage with 13:03 remaining. The Bears scored the final three goals of the game, including two from the eight-meter, to put the final score at 15-5.
Longwood led in shots, 43-13, and ground balls, 27-19, but Mercer led in draw controls, 12-10.
Mercer will return home to face Gardner-Webb on Sunday, March 15 at 2 p.m. at Five Star Stadium.
