Bears Take On VMI On Senior Night

MACON, Ga. – Mercer will resume its Southern Conference schedule on Friday night when the women's soccer team hosts VMI at Bear Field. Prior to the match, there will be a short ceremony honoring Mercer's nine seniors.

Mercer cruised past South Carolina State, 5-0, on Wednesday evening. Maddie Clark led the Bears with two goals, while Valeria Bermeo, Karina Castillo and Caroline Smith all found the back of the net as well.

SERIES HISTORY
Mercer holds a 3-0 record in the series with VMI, including a 2-0 win last season. The last time the teams met in Macon was 2014, which resulted in a 4-0 victory for Mercer. In the three meetings between Mercer and VMI, the Bears have outscored the Keydets 9-0.

SCOUTING VMI
VMI currently sits in eighth place in the SoCon with a 2-3-0 record in league play. The Keydets have picked up wins over UNCG and Wofford. VMI has notched a 1-5 record on the road this season, including an 0-2 mark in SoCon play.

Blake Cashin leads the Keydets with three goals, while Emma Quirk has tallied a team-leading eight points of a team-high four assists and two goals. Three additional players have scored a pair of goals this season.
Caci Keppeler has been the Keydets' keeper of late and has played every minute of SoCon play. Keppeler has made 31 saves and allowed 11 goals for a .738 save percentage and a 1.44 goals-against average.

After her two goals in Wednesday's win, Maddie Clark moved into first place in the SoCon in total goals (11) and game-winning goals (5) this season. Clark also ranks fifth nationally in game-winning goals and sixth in total goals. Additionally, the redshirt senior leads Mercer and ranks third in the league in total points (23).

Logan Culver is second for Mercer with three goals, followed by Valeria Bermeo and Abbey Reddig with two apiece. Caroline Smith has dished out a team-leading three assists and added a goal to total five points.

Cristina Mursuli has spent a majority of time in goal for the Bears, making 55 saves and allowing 19 goals for a .743 save percentage and a 1.55 GAA. Mercer's defense has recorded three straight shutouts, including two complete game shutouts by Mursuli.
