
Mercer Concludes Undefeated Fall Season

MACON, Ga. – In final two games of the 2016 fall season, the Mercer softball team continued to excel in all phases of the game and defeated Georgia Military College 14-1 and 9-1 on Sunday, Oct. 9 at Sikes Field.
Winning has been a common theme for the Bears over the last two weekends as they wrapped up the fall exhibition season with a perfect 8-0 record. The eight contests have resulted in Mercer outscoring the opposition by a staggering run differential of 90-2.
GAME 1: Mercer 14, Georgia Military College 1
The pitching trio of Maxine Rodriguez, Megan Bilgri and Anna O'Neill paced the Bears through the first leg of Sunday's doubleheader, recording a combined five strikeouts while only allowing one run to GMC.
Mercer flashed all aspects of its offensive potential at the plate, highlighted by home runs from Quirisa Mauga and Rodriguez while Meghan Rud added a 2-for-4 effort with one walk and a stolen base. Abby Walsh was 1-for-2 with a pair of sacrifice flies and a walk and Megan Lane finished 2-for-3 with a double.
GAME 2: Mercer 9, Georgia Military College 1
Starting pitcher Stella Preston gave Mercer five innings in the circle while retiring three batters via the strikeout before handing it over to Jill McElderry (3 IP, 5 K) and Ginny Hearn (2 IP, no hits).
Megan Lane totaled a team-high four hits (4-for-4) with a home run while Taylor Miller went 3-for-4 with a stolen base and run scored. Quirisa Mauga's bat remained hot as she was 2-for-3 with a double and a sacrifice fly.
UP NEXT
Mercer has one full week of practice remaining in the 2016 fall season before taking a break until the official 2017 season arrives.
