Mercer additionally receives votes in College Soccer News’ Top-30 Poll
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – After earning two clean sheets en route to being recognized as the Southern Conference Tournament Most Valuable Player last week, Mercer goalkeeper Jeremy Booth was named to College Soccer News' National Team of the Week.
Booth anchored a Mercer defense that shutout Wofford, 2-0, in the SoCon semifinals and provided late heroics as the Bears defeated top-seeded ETSU in a penalty shootout in the title match Saturday. The redshirt junior held the Buccaneers scoreless through regulation and overtime before coming up with a key save on ETSU's second penalty kick attempt, setting up the Bears' eventual title-clinching score by Max Poore.
Booth was the lone goalkeeper on the 13-man team selected by College Soccer News.
The Bears (13-6-1) also received votes in the website's final Top-30 National Poll of the regular season, which was released Sunday. Mercer received the SoCon's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament with the conference championship victory.
The Orange and Black will learn of their NCAA fate during the tournament's selection show at 1 p.m. Monday. The show will stream live on NCAA.com and via the NCAA's Facebook page. A watch party will be held at Margarita's of Mercer Village starting at 12:30 p.m.
