LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Following an impressive senior year at Frisco Centennial High School, incoming Mercer University softball freshman Abby Walsh was named a third team high school All-American by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association last week.Â
Walsh, who is expected to play outfield for the Bears, earned four varsity letters under Frisco Centennial head coach Stephanie Pels and led the Titans to a pair of district titles and regional berths. The Titans went 19-9 overall and 13-3 in the 9-5A District this past spring while Walsh posted a staggering .683 batting average with 48 hits in 82 at-bats. She also totaled 25 extra-base hits and a team-high 43 RBIs.
Walsh also starred on the American Freedom Gold club team under the direction of Tim Soefje.
The Frisco, Texas, native is one of seven incoming freshman that make up co-head coaches James and Stephanie DeFeo's 2016 recruiting class. Mercer went 23-35 (4-14 Southern Conference) last season after reaching the league championship game in consecutive years in 2014-15.
"Abby is an athlete who is a lethal weapon from the left side of the plate," said James DeFeo on signing day. "She definitely has an opportunity to come in and make a difference in the middle of our lineup. She will add speed and versatility to our outfield."
