
Many key returning players from Mercer softball's 2015 campaign will return this season.
Softball Releases Fall Schedule

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer University softball team will play eight home games at Sikes Field during its 2016 fall exhibition schedule, as announced by head coach Stephanie DeFeo on Tuesday afternoon.

The Bears kick off the fall slate by hosting Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and Anderson (S.C.) on Saturday, Oct. 1 and Sunday, Oct. 2. Mercer will face ABAC at 11 a.m. and Anderson at 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 1 before squaring off again with Anderson at 11 a.m. and ABAC at 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 2.

A week later, Mercer welcomes South Georgia State College at noon and Georgia Highlands at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8. The team will conclude its eight-game schedule on Sunday, Oct. 9 with a doubleheader against Georgia Military College starting at noon.

All eight exhibitions will be nine innings, compared to the usual seven-inning regular season contests. They will be open to the public and free of charge.

"We're extremely excited about the eight games we have scheduled with the likes of ABAC, Anderson, South Georgia State and Georgia Military College," DeFeo said. "Everyone is looking forward to getting back on the field this fall and I believe we've added a great group of freshmen who will add depth to our team.

"We expect to establish a strong 'attack' mentality this fall to ensure we're hitting our stride heading into the spring."
