MACON, Ga. – Mercer is back in action at Bear Field as the women's soccer team begins Southern Conference play on Friday, Sept. 23 against Western Carolina at 7 p.m.

The Bears defense performed well against No. 3 Florida State, but Mercer ultimately fell 2-0 to the defending national champions last week. Mercer spent most of the game on defense, keeping Florida State from getting settling into its offense well.

Mercer owns a 3-1 record in the series with Western Carolina, including a 3-0 mark since joining the Catamounts in the SoCon in 2014.

SCOUTING WESTERN CAROLINA
Western Carolina wrapped up its non-conference slate with a 1-0 double-overtime win against Tennessee Tech, giving the Catamounts a 3-6 record on the season. WCU has scored 10 goals this season, while its opponents have netted 19 goals thus far.

Kasey Cooke leads the Catamounts with three goals and six points, having scored two game-winning goals for Western Carolina. Kyla Moncrief has also scored a pair of goals for WCU, while Sayres McKenna has tallied a team-leading four assists. Cooke is tied for the lead in the SoCon with her two game-winning goals and McKenna is ranked fifth in the league in total assists.

Carly Tinstman has spent a majority of the season in goal for the Catamounts, making 34 saves and allowing 15 goals. Tinstman has recorded a .694 save percentage, a 1.83 goals-against average and a shutout. She is currently ranked fifth in the conference in total saves and saves per game (4.25).

Maddie Clark leads Mercer with four goals and nine points, ranking the redshirt senior fourth in the Southern Conference in total goals and fifth in goals per game (0.50). Freshman Logan Culver and senior Abbey Reddig have each notched a pair of goals for the Bears this season, tying for third on the team with four points each.

Sophomore Caroline Smith has dished out a team-leading three assists, placing her fifth in the league in total assists and sixth in assists per game (0.38).

Senior Cristina Mursuli and freshman Leah Cochran have split time in goal for Mercer thus far. Mursuli has played 515 minutes, made 25 saves and allowed 12 goals for a .676 save percentage and 2.10 GAA. Cochran has spent 205 minutes in goal, made 11 saves and allowed two goals for a .846 save percentage and a 0.88 GAA.
