Mercer to Compete in JSU’s Foothills Invitational

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer men's and women's cross country teams will travel to Oxford, Alabama this weekend to compete in Jacksonville State's 11th annual Foothills Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 1. The meet will take place at the JSU Cross Country Course, beginning at 9:30 a.m. (ET) with the men's 8K which will be followed by the women's 5K.

It's the second time this season the Bears will compete at the JSU Cross Country Course. Mercer opened the 2016 cross country season in Oxford for the Strut's Season Opener. The Bears are coming off of their lone home event of the season, the Julius Johnson Invitational. Behind an individual win by Ahmed Jama and a team win in the men's 8K and a second-place finish in the women's 5K, the Bears had an impressive weekend in Macon.

Mercer is among eight NCAA Division I programs that'll be competing in the invitational, including Austin Peay, Chattanooga, Georgia Southern (women only), Georgia Tech, Jacksonville State, Kennesaw State and Troy.

Five men – Jama, Michael Rowlands, Marc Reiser, Justin Hanson and Sam Gelabert – finished last weekend's 8K in under 30 minutes. The Bears will look for leadership from Victoria Rogers once again, who has been the women's top finisher in all three events this season.

Final results will be available on MercerBears.com following the conclusion of both races Saturday.
