Bears Surge Past Terriers on Senior Day

MACON, Ga. – Mercer men's soccer used four second-half goals to storm past Wofford on Senior Day in front of a raucous crowd at Bear Field. The Bears (5-5-4, 3-1-2) overcame the one-goal deficit at halftime to down the Terriers (3-11-0, 3-3-0) by the final score of 4-1.

Mercer tallied 19 shots, including five on goal. The Bears registered four goals in a span of 9:24 to overcome an early deficit to down the visiting Terriers.

MAN OF THE MATCH
Will Bagrou was today's man of the match. The senior shined on Senior Day, assisting on Mercer's first goal of the game before tallying two goals of his own later in the second half. Bagrou collected a season-high five points in the tonight's victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Wofford claimed a 1-0 halftime advantage as Chris Welsh's penalty kick in the 18th minute lifted the Terriers over the Bears early on. Â

Trenton Whitely buried the equalizer in the 54th minute, capitalizing on his third attempt of the contest. The first two strikes from Whitely banged off the post and the crossbar, but the senior would not be denied his moment of glory on Senior Day. Whitely's goal was set up by Bagrou, burying the ball into the far left corner from the right side of the box.

Kobe Perez netted the go-ahead goal in the 60th minute following a red card from Wofford's Dredon Kelly. Perez's strike came off a free kick just 20 yards out, bending the ball into the near right side of the net for the 2-1 advantage.

Bagrou's first goal came via the penalty kick as the senior forward capitalized on the opportunity for his ninth goal of the season. Bagrou netted his SoCon-best 10th goal of the season in the 63rd minute, assisted by Leo Toledo Jr. and Whitely. The duo found Bagrou racing into the right side of the box for a one-timer past the outstretched arms of Hunter Wages.
