Bears Blank Keydets in Regular Season Finale

LEXINGTON, Va. – Mercer Men's Soccer poured in seven goals against the VMI Keydets in the regular season finale earlier this afternoon, besting the host Keydets by the final score of 7-0.

STAT OF THE MATCH
Mercer tallied a whopping 26 shots in the match, including 13 on frame. Seven of those 13 shots found the back of the net for the Bears.

MAN OF THE MATCH
Conner Antley collected five points in the regular season finale, scoring two goals and recording one assist in the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
It didn't take long for Mercer to get on board as Leo Toledo Jr. notched his first goal of the season in the seventh minute, assisted by Will Bagrou and Antley.

From that point on, it would be all Mercer as Antley found the back of the net for his first of two goals. Antley's header came in the 44th minute of play off the corner kick from Jake Mezei.

The Bears continued to attack the net early in the second half, scoring three goals in the first 10 minutes to stretch their lead to 5-0. All three goals were scored by separate Bears as Mezei, Roberto Arteaga and Bagrou found the back of the net.

Mercer would not call off the attack, netting two more goals in the final 34 minutes of play. In the 56th minute, Antley found the back of the net for the second time, this time assisted by Bagrou. The final strike of the 2017 regular season came off the foot of Trenton Whitely as the senior midfielder bent in a beautiful free kick to cap off the scoring for Mercer.
