Bears Open Season With 4-0 Win Over SC State

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer women's tennis team opened the 2017 season with a convincing 4-0 win over South Carolina State on Saturday afternoon.

Mercer won in all three doubles pairings to take a 1-0 lead on the day. Katie Sidor picked up the Bears' first singles point with a 6-0, 6-0 win at flight three.

Grace Korta put Mercer up 3-0 with her 6-0, 6-1 victory on court two. Haley Powell clinched the match for Mercer with a 6-0, 6-3 win at flight six.

When the match was called, Katia Stavroulaki was up 6-3, 2-1 at flight one and Marie Mottet was leading 6-3, 4-3 at flight four. Anna Sovic was still playing her first set on court five, but was leading 6-5.

Next up, Mercer will face Auburn on Friday, Feb. 17 in a doubleheader in Auburn, Ala.
