Mercer Falls To Air Force In SoCon Opener

MACON, Ga. – Mercer was unable to stretch its win streak to three, falling to Air Force, 14-6, on Saturday afternoon in the Bears' Southern Conference opener.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Falcons started strong, surging to a 4-0 lead over the Bears in the first 11 minutes. Shawn Carter found the back of the net with 2:39 left in the opening period to put Mercer on the board but Air Force added another goal to lead 5-1 after the first period. The Falcons scored another four unanswered goal to stretch its lead to 9-1. Chris Rahill dished the ball to Will McCarthy, who scored with 23 seconds left in the half as Air Force led 9-2 heading into halftime.

The scoring slowed down in the third quarter, but Air Force maintained its lead and outscored the Bears 3-1 in the period as the Falcons led 12-3 heading into the final 15 minutes of play. Mercer outscored Air Force 3-2 in the final period, but the Falcons' lead was too much for the Bears to overcome late in the game.

Gabe Anderson had a career-high three caused turnovers and added a ground ball for the Bears.
