Mercer Sweeps Kennesaw State, 7-0

KENNESAW, Ga. – In its final non-conference match of the season, Mercer swept Kennesaw State, 7-0, on Wednesday afternoon.

The Bears started with a 1-0 lead after winning one and two doubles to take the doubles point. Katia Stavroulaki took the first singles point with her 6-2, 6-2 win at flight one as Mercer took a 2-0 lead overall.

Katie Sidor made it 3-0 after a 6-2, 6-2 win at flight three and Andrea Peteu clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-3 win at flight six. Haley Powell won 6-1, 6-4 at flight five and Maria Mottet won 6-4, 6-3 at flight four as five of Mercer's players won in straight sets.

After dropping her first set, Grace Korta rallied for a 1-6, 6-2, 6-1 victory at flight two to complete the sweep and wrap up play.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH
Haley Powell went 2-0 on the day after a 7-5 doubles win with Katie Sidor and then a 6-2, 6-1 win to start singles strong for the Bears.

"The team did a great job from beginning to end and the intensity was solid. This was a good lead up to the final conference match on Friday. We've got a lot to play for."

Mercer concludes the regular season on Friday at 2 p.m. when the Bears host Wofford at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center.
