MACON, Ga. – Mercer closed out the regular season and saluted its pair of seniors with a 5-2 win over Wofford on Friday afternoon. Seniors Haley Powell and Katia Stavroulaki both won their singles matches as Mercer cemented its best finish in the SoCon since joining the league three years ago.

Mercer finished the season with a 13-8 record and a 4-3 mark in SoCon play. The Bears' 13 wins is the most under head coach Eric Hayes and the four conference wins is the most since Mercer joined the SoCon prior to the 2015 season.

Mercer won the doubles point with wins at flights two and three to take a 1-0 lead in the match. Marie Mottet started singles play strong for the Bears with a 6-3, 6-2 win at flight four as Mercer went up 2-0.

Stavroulaki won 6-4, 6-3 at flight one and Katie Sidor clinched the match with a 7-5, 6-0 win at flight three. Powell made it 5-0 with her 6-3, 6-7, 1-0 win at flight five before Wofford picked up a pair of points at flights two and six to wrap up play.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH
Haley Powell went 2-0 on the day with a 6-4 win at two doubles with Katie Sidor to clinch the doubles point followed by a 6-3, 6-7, 1-0 win at flight five. The senior was one of three Mercer players to go 2-0 on the day.

Next up, Mercer will play in the Southern Conference Tournament April 21-23 in Greenville, S.C.
