
Mercer Headed To SoCon Tournament

MACON, Ga. – The third-seeded Mercer women's tennis team is set to face No. 6 UNCG in the opening round of the Southern Conference Tournament on Friday at 3 p.m. in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

The Bears wrapped up the regular season with a 13-8 record and went 4-3 in SoCon play, marking the best overall and conference records for Mercer under head coach Eric Hayes. All-SoCon First Team selection Katia Stavroulaki led Mercer with a 15-3 mark at flight one and went 6-1 in league matches. Second Team honoree Haley Powell was 12-4 overall and also went 6-1 against league opponents. Stavroulaki finished the year on a nine-match win streak, while Powell won her last eight matches.

Katie Sidor finished the year with a 14-6 record, including a 14-4 mark at flight three and a 5-2 record in SoCon play. In doubles play, Grace Korta and Stavroulaki led the way at 11-8, but Powell and Sidor led in league action with a 3-2 record.

Mercer defeated UNCG 5-2 on the road during the regular season. The Spartans went 3-18 overall and 2-5 in SoCon play this season. Sophia Adams is the only Spartan with a winning record in singles play as she went 8-7 overall and 5-2 in SoCon matches. In doubles, Adams and Corinne Blythe were 6-5 at flight three and 5-2 against league opponents, while Blaine Boaz and Nancy Bridges were 4-3 in conference play.
