Bears Host Montevallo Sunday in Home Opener

MACON, Ga. – Mercer's women's soccer team will look to build off of their thrilling season opener victory, when they host the Montevallo Falcons at Bear Field, Sunday at 2 p.m. Sunday's match marks the first of three consecutive home contests for the Bears.

NOTABLES

Mercer returns five starters from their 2016 roster. The Bears also welcome 10 newcomers to the team, all freshmen.
Junior Caroline Smith helped lift the Bears to a thrilling 1-0 victory at Troy on Friday, scoring the game's only goal at the 83:41 mark.
Mercer's goalies were a big difference in determining the outcome Friday with five saves on goal.
With their win Friday, the Bears are now 4-3-1 in season openers over the past eight years.
The Bears broke the Trojans' 11-0 record in home non-conferences games over the last three seasons, in front of 1,114 fans – the second-largest crowd in Troy soccer history.
After their match Sunday, the Bears will host the Mercer Invitational next weekend, in which they will face Siena on Friday, Aug. 25, at 8 p.m., followed by a meeting with Kennesaw State on Sunday, Aug. 27, at 6 p.m.

SCOUTING THE FALCONS
Montevallo finished the 2016 season with a 6-9-1 overall record, while holding a 5-6-1 conference mark. The Falcons struggled away from their home pitch last season with a 2-5-1 road record. Much like the Bears, Montevallo's roster is full of new faces, with nine freshmen on the team.
