
Whitely Signs with St. Kilda Celts

MACON, Ga. – Former Mercer midfielder/defender Trenton Whitely has officially signed with the St. Kilda Cets in Southeast Melbourne, Australia.

St. Kilda Cets compete in Tier 3 under the Football Federation of Australia (FFA). Within the FFA, there are 10 tiers of competition with Tier 1 being the "A" league featuring Sydney and the Newcastle Jets. The St. Kilda Cets compete in the Victorian State League 2, which is made up of 12 different teams. Since the establishment of the club in 2011, St. Kilda Cets has been promoted at least one tier in each season, starting the program in Tier 10. This past season, St. Kilda Cets finished 8th in the league and will remain in the Tier 3.

Whitely concluded his Mercer career playing in 80 matches with 64 starts. The Georgia native concluded his career with four goals and 14 assists. In 2014, Whitely was named to the SoCon All-Freshman squad after recording three assists. Whitely was also instrumental in Mercer making its return to the NCAA Tournament in 2016, garnering a spot on the SoCon All-Tournament Team. The former Mercer standout capped his career with a spot on the 2017 All-SoCon Second Team for the first time in his career. Over the final two years with the Bears, Whitely competed in 43 matches, starting in each contest as a junior and senior.
