Mercer Men to Face Michigan in Match Play Saturday

Bears and Wolverines will clash at Great Waters Golf Club

MACON, Ga. – Mercer's top eight men's golfers will take on Michigan in a match play event at Great Waters Golf Club at Reynolds Lake Oconee in Greensboro, Ga. on Saturday.

The Bears will go head-to-head with the Big Ten Conference foe's top eight golfers, including No. 24 nationally-ranked Kyle Mueller. Mercer opened its spring season with a fifth-place finish at the Martin Downs Collegiate in Palm City, Fla. on Tuesday.

Format Details

Match pairings are determined by similar individual national rank. Mercer and Michigan will both have eight golfers in the event.
Winners are determined by number of holes won, not a stroke total.
Eight total matches. First team to win five matches wins the overall event.
In the event of a tie (4-4), the tiebreaker is based on margin of matches won.

Coach Kayden's Take
"Our guys are excited for the challenge of a match play event format," said head coach Kirk Kayden. "We don't get to do this very often, but it creates a very good team environment and encourages the players to really support one another.

"Michigan is a great collegiate team, so this will be an outstanding test to see how we stack up. Our guys are playing with confidence and are looking forward to the opportunity."
