Bears Return to Five Star Stadium to Host Detroit Mercy Sunday

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer men's lacrosse team returns to Five Star Stadium to host Detroit Mercy this Sunday, Feb. 18. The game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.

Series History
Detroit Mercy leads the all-time series, 4-2. In the most recent meeting, the Bears defeated the Titans in Lexington, 10-8 (2/18/17).

Scouting Detroit Mercy
The Titans (0-1) enter the matchup coming off a narrow, 10-7, loss at Notre Dame last week (2/11/18). Detroit Mercy was led in scoring by Matthew Vangalen and Lucas Ducharme, who each found the back of the net twice. Vangalen led the team in assists with three on the day. Despite the score line, Detroit Mercy outshot the Fighting Irish, 33 to 26 and committed nearly half the turnovers (12 to 21). The Titans are led by Head Coach Chris Kolon. Kolon is in his 10^th season on the sidelines and fourth as a head coach for Detroit Mercy.

Honorary No. 24
Matt Quinn will don Mercer's No. 24 jersey Saturday in honor of John Michael Night. A different Bear will wear the No. 24 jersey each week of the 2018 season.

The Bears have scored 21 goals on 84 shot attempts this season.
Senior midfielder Scott Baird has led the team on the offensive end this season, leading the squad with eight points on five goals and assisting on three as well. Baird also leads the team in total shots (23).
Sophomore goalkeeper Bradley Hodoval is 33rd in the nation in saves per game (10.91), with a total of 26 on the season.
Junior Kiel Brennan in top 50 in the nation in ground balls per game with an average of 4.33 per contest. Brennan is also 34th in the nation in faceoff percentage, winning 48.0 percent on the year.

Looking Ahead
Following competition on Sunday, the Bears will travel to Chapel Hill, N.C. to face North Carolina on Wednesday, Feb. 28. Mercer's matchup with UNC will be the first of the Bears' five game stretch away from home.
