Men’s Tennis Set for Pair of Midweek Battles, Featuring No. 11 UGA

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer Bears' men's tennis team will return to action as they travel up the road to take on the No. 11 ranked Georgia Bulldogs this Tuesday, Feb. 27, in Athens, Ga. The match will be held at the Dan Magil Tennis Complex and is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. The Bears will have a quick turnaround, returning to Macon to face the Jacksonville State Gamecocks on Wednesday, Feb. 28. Play will be held at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center, beginning at 2:30 p.m.

Scouting the Bulldogs
The No. 11 nationally ranked Georgia Bulldogs enter Tuesday's matchup holding a 5-2 overall record. The Bulldogs have dropped their last two contests, 4-2, at the hands of No. 2 ranked Stanford and No. 9 ranked Southern California. The Bulldogs have five players nationally ranked by the ITA, with Wayne Montgomery leading the way at No. 11 in the nation. Prior to their first loss of the season, Georgia had won five straight matches, including a triumph over No. 8 ranked Columbia. The Bulldogs are led by Manuel Diaz who has helped guide Georgia to 28 Southeastern Conference Championships in 29 seasons at the helm. This will be the first meeting between the two teams in 50 years, last meeting in in 1967,

Scouting the Gamecocks
Jacksonville State will enter Wednesday's meeting holding an impressive 8-1 record on the early spring season, including a four-match winning streak. The Gamecocks lone loss on the season came at the hands of Lamar University, dropping a 4-2 decision on Feb. 3. The Gamecocks' roster is full of international experience, with players from seven different countries. Jacksonville State is coached by former standout, Andres Amores, who has been with the program since 2015.

Following play on Wednesday, the Bears will have a few days rest before heading to DeLand, Fla. to face Appalachian State next Monday, March 5, beginning at 10 a.m.
