
Bears Rally to Top Troy, 4-3, Monday Afternoon

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer Bears' women's tennis team rallied back to defeat the Troy Trojans, 4-3, Monday afternoon at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center.

The Bears claimed an early 1-0 lead as they won the doubles competition. Mercer's No. 1 pairing of Grace Korta and Celine Schepers fell, 6-1, to Sanae Ohta and Nancy Karaky. The Bears' No. 2 duo of Katie Sidor and Anna Sovic defeated Efriliya Herlina and Jiayuan Xue, 6-1. Mercer clinched the doubles point with Marie Mottet and Lucia Gutierrez's 6-3 triumph over Maria Casas Blas and Pei Ju Hsieh on court No. 3.

Troy tied the match at 1-1 with No. 5 Mihaljevic topping Gutierrez, 6-0, 6-0. The Bears took the lead once again as No. 1Â Sidor downed Ohta in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. The Trojans would knot the match up at 2-2 with Herlina's, 6-1, 6-4, victory over Schepers on court No. 2. Troy would earn their first lead of the day as Xue topped Marie Mottet, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3. Mercer's No. 4 Korta tied the match for the Bears with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, victory over Karaky. The Bears' No. 6 seeded Maeva Roquebert rallied to clinch the match for Mercer with a 5-7, 7-6, 7-5, decision over Hsieh.

The Bears will now turn to Southern Conference play, hosting ETSU on Friday, March 16, beginning at 1 p.m.
