Mercer Drops Conference Opener to ETSU Friday

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer Bears' women's tennis team dropped their Southern Conference opener, 5-2, to the ETSU Bucs Friday afternoon at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center.

The Bucs jumped to an early 1-0 lead, sweeping the doubles competition. The Bears' No. 1 duo of Grace Korta and Celine Schepers dropped a 6-0 decision to Ioann Markesini and Alory Pereira. On court No. 2, Katie Sidor and Anna Sovic saw their winning streak come to an end, falling 7-6, to Yi Chi Ma and Melissa Esguerra. Court No. 3 saw the Bucs' Alejandra Morales and A. Pascual-Larrinaga top Lucia Gutierrez and Marie Mottet, 6-4.

Mercer tied the match at one apiece with Korta's straight set, 7-6, 7-6, triumph over Morales on singles court No. 4. The Bucs would take the next four singles courts to clinch the match. On Court No. 6, Chi Ma defeated Sovic, 6-3, 7-5. Court No. 2 saw Markesini best Schepers, 6-2, 7-5. Pereira snapped Mercer's No. 1 slotted Sidor's nine match winning streak, in a 7-6, 6-3, contest. Mercer's No. 5 Maeva Roquebert fell, 6-3, 7-5, to Esguerra. The Bears' Mottet rallied back from a set down, to beat the Bucs' Pascual-Larrinaga, 4-6, 6-1, 7-5.
