
Bears Drop 6-1 Decision to Furman Sunday Afternoon

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer Bears' women's tennis squad fell 6-1 to the Furman Paladins Sunday afternoon at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center.

Furman jumped to an early lead, sweeping the doubles competition. No. 1 Danni Vines and Katty Weymouth beat Grace Korta and Katie Sidor, 6-3. On court No. 2, the Bears' Christie Cesarini and Celine Schepers fell, 6-4, to Katarina Kozarov and Gabby Rodriguez. Court No. 3 saw Carol Kerman and Georgie Walker defeat Lucia Gutierrez and Marie Mottet, 6-1.

Mercer's No. 5 Maeva Roquebert picked up the lone point for the Bears with a straight set 6-3, 6-3, triumph over Walker. Furman took the remaining singles courts. No. 1 Kozarov defeated Sidor, 6-4, 6-4. On court No. 2 Mottet dropped a 7-5, 6-2, decision to Weymouth. No. 3 Vines beat Schepers, 7-5, 6-0. Court No. 4 saw Kerman top Korta, 6-4, 7-5. No. 6 Rodriguez bested Cesarini, 6-1, 6-0.
