Mercer Falls 6-1 to UAB Wednesday Afternoon

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Mercer Bears' women's tennis dropped a 6-1 contest to the UAB Blazers Wednesdday afternoon at George Ward Park.

UAB jumped to an early lead, seizing the doubles competition. Mercer took a quick advantage in doubles play as Lucia Gutierrez and Marie Mottet topped Jana Hecking and Dominika Hrabalova, 6-3. The Blazers' responded with No. 1 Sophie Dodds and Alex Schipakina's 6-4 victory over Grace Korta and Katie Sidor. On court No. 2, the UAB clinched the doubles point with Marlene Herrmann and Hana Sisirak defeating Christie Cesarini and Celine Schepers, 6-4.
The Bears' No. 1 Sidor returned to her winning ways with a 6-7, 6-2, 10-7, rally over Shchipakina. Mercer continued to battle, forcing two other matches to three sets, but the Blazers proved to be too tough taking the remaining singles courts. On court No. 2 Mottet dropped a 6-3, 2-6, 10-6, super tiebreak to Herrmann. No. 3 Schepers fell, 6-0, 6-0, to Dodds. Court No. 4 saw Bertrands top Korta, 5-7, 6-4, 10-5. On court No. 5, Roquebert was defeated, 6-0, 6-3, by Hecking. Play was concluded as No. 6 Hrabalova bested Gutierrez, 6-3, 6-2.
