Mercer Earns First SoCon Victory With 9-7 Triumph At Air Force

ASAF ACADEMY, Colo. – The Mercer men's lacrosse team picked up their first Southern Conference victory and first win over Air Force in program history, topping the Falcons 9-7 in thrilling fashion Saturday afternoon.
How It Happened
The two teams battled to a scoreless draw after the first period of play. Air Force scored on a goal by Trey Lervick with just seven seconds remaining in the opening half as the Falcons took a 1-0 lead after two periods of action.
Mercer's Pascal Coombs scored the first of his three goals on the afternoon at the 13:04 mark of the third period to tie the score at 1-1. Coombs tallied another goal less than two minutes later as Mercer went up 2-1.
Air Force's Lervick knotted the score at the 9:45 mark with another goal. The Falcons took the lead at the 6:03 mark and scored again to go up 4-2. The Bears rallied with two straight goals to end the third period trailing 5-4.
The fourth period was all Mercer, as the Bears recorded five consecutive goals to take a 9-6 lead with 3:38 remaining in the game. Mercer's defense held on strong as the Bears earned the hard-fought victory.
With the win, Mercer improves to 3-6, while Air Force falls to 3-6.
