Bears Trump Western Carolina, 5-2, Friday Afternoon

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer Bears' women's tennis team rallied back to top the Western Carolina Catamounts, 5-2, Friday afternoon at the Catamount Athletic Complex.

The Bears fell behind early, falling short in the doubles competition. The No. 1 pairing of Grace Korta and Katie Sidor topped Savannah Taranto and Jordan Strickland, 6-3. The Bears' No. 3 duo of Anna Sovic and Marie Mottet dropped a 6-4 decision to Carli Deehr and Caitlin Ward. The Catamounts clinched the doubles point with Jordyn King and Lauren McCall's 7-5 victory over Christie Cesarini and Celine Schepers.

The Bears rallied back taking court No. 2 with Mottet downing Strickland, 6-3, 6-2. Mercer would gain control of the contest as No. 5 Roquebert defeated Webb, 6-3, 6-4. On court No. 4, Korta topped Taranto, 7-5, 7-5. Western Carolina clawed back as Deehr took a 6-3, 5-7, 7-5, decision over Gutierrez. No. 3 Schepers clinched the match for Mercer trumping McCall, 6-3, 1-6, 6-4. Mercer finished the day with No. 1 Sidor besting King, 6-4, 5-7, 6-1.

The Bears will return home to host Arkansas State this Sunday, April 15 at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center. Sunday's match will serve as Senior Day for the Bears and is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
