Bears Clinch Second in SoCon, Top Furman, 4-3, on Senior Day

MACON, Ga. –The Mercer men's tennis team clinched second place in the Southern Conference standings with a 4-3 win over Furman Saturday afternoon at Senior Day.
The Paladins gained early momentum picking up a win on court No. 3, with Ivan Mitric and Drew Singerman defeating Carver Arant and Fernando Guardia, 7-6. Mercer's No. 2 duo of Nicolas Guillon and Ruben Vanoppen earned a 6-4 triumph over Clarke Wilson and Trevor Croyder. The Bear's No. 1 pairing of Sam Philp and Olivier Stuart clinched the doubles point with a 7-6 conquer of Cameron Green and Jake Munns.
Furman tied the match at 1-1 as their No. 1 Green topped Philp, 6-3, 6-0. Mercer claimed the lead once again as No. 4 Guardia downed Singerman, 7-5, 6-1. It was all tied up once again as No. 5 Wilson trumped Vanoppen, 6-2, 7-6. The momentum would keep switching as No. 2 Stuart beat Munns, 7-6, 6-0, before No. 6 Bhangdia was victorious over Arant, 6-3, 6-4, to tie the match at 3-3. Mercer's No. 3 Guillon clinched the victory defeating Mitric, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.
The Bears finish with the best regular season record in program history, an overall record of 15-6 and a 5-1 SoCon mark.

The Bears will turn focus to the Southern Conference Tournament held in Chattanooga, Tenn. from April 20-22. The tournament bracket and seeding will be announced on a later date.
