Three school records fall as Mercer competes in nine events
AUBURN, Ala. – Mercer's Sydney Campbell, Cherrish Wright and Ania Grzeszczak set school records in the 100-meter dash, 100-meter hurdles and 3000-meter run events as the Bears competed for a second day Saturday at the Tiger Track Classic at Hutsell-Rosen Track.
Â
One day after Campbell set the program's long jump record, the freshman ran the 100-meter dash in 11.95 seconds, which was 0.13 seconds better than teammate Lauryn Dancy's former record of 12.08. Dancy was close behind, cracking the 12-second mark as well (11.98). All four Bears to compete in the event – Campbell, Dancy, Marion Meadows and Alex Williams – all ran personal-bests.
Â
Wright bested her former record (15.10) in the 100-meter hurdles by 0.27 seconds. She set the former record on March 24 at the UNF Spring Break Invitational in Jacksonville, Fla. Wright added another personal-record of 25.30 in the 200-meter dash.
Â
Grzeszczak placed eighth out of 24 runners with the record-breaking time of 10:29.07 in the 3000-meter run.

Coach Wims' Take
"It is great to see our freshmen continue to live up to the hype this spring; they are turning into what I thought they'd be when they joined our program," said head coach Jerod Wims. "Sydney [Campbell] did an outstanding job of shattering her own long jump record Friday and it was impressive to see her and Lauryn [Dancy] both come through with sub-12-second times in the 100-meter today."
