Softball Receiving Votes in ESPN.com Poll

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer softball team found itself in another Top 25 poll, this time receiving votes in the latest ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 poll. The Bears are currently 28-13 on the season, most recently defeating Alabama State by the final score of 7-0 in Montgomery, Ala.

Mercer is led in batting by freshman standout, Micayla Rood. The Georgia native is currently batting .350 with four extra-base hits and four runs batted in. Megan Lane and Caroline Taylor have proven to be quite the one-two punch in the lineup, combining for 19 home runs and 65 runs batted in. Meanwhile, the always-reliable Meghan Rud is hitting .320 on the season with nine runs batted in and has successfully stolen 27-of-28 bases on the campaign. Mercer is paced in the circle by Jill McElderry with a 9-2 overall record and an ERA of 2.04 with a team-high 76 strikeouts. Stella Preston is also boasting an ERA of 2.22 with an overall record of 9-3.

The Bears host Samford in a three-game series this weekend beginning with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Sikes Field. The two SoCon foes will then conclude the series with a single game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
