
Bears Topple Terriers, 5-2, Friday Afternoon

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer Bears' women's tennis team strung together their second consecutive Southern Conference victory of the season with a 5-2 defeat of Wofford Friday afternoon at the Reeves Tennis Center.

The Bears grabbed an early 1-0 lead, winning the doubles competition. The No. 1 pairing of Grace Korta and Katie Sidor rolled past Cassidy Hicks and Jenna Vroman, 6-1. The Bears' No. 3 duo of Anna Sovic and Marie Mottet clinched the doubles point as they defeated Lauren Reid and Samantha Russell, 6-4. The Terriers took court No. 2 with Curren Carver and Brittney Wilbur topping  Christie Cesarini and Celine Schepers, 6-4.

Mercer's No. 6 seeded Lucia Gutierrez stretched the Bears lead with a 6-2, 6-3, victory over Annie Mayfield. Mercer's No. 5 Roquebert bested Wilbur in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5. Wofford earned a point as No. 2 Vroman topped Mottet, 6-2, 7-6. Mercer's No. 4 Grace Korta clinched the match with a 6-2, 7-5, triumph over Carver. The Bears' No. 1 seeded Sidor battled to a thrilling three set victory over Hicks, 6-1, 2-6, 6-4. Court No. 3 saw Schepers drop a 4-6, 6-4, 10-8, decision to Reid.

The Bears will return to action next Tuesday, April 10 as they travel to Chattanooga, Tenn. to face the Chattanooga Mocs. Play is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
