
Bears Beat Bulldogs, 5-1, Monday Afternoon

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer Bears' men's tennis team snapped South Carolina State's three match winning streak, topping the Bulldogs, 5-1, Monday afternoon at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center.

Mercer rallied back after dropping the first doubles match, to claim the doubles point and 1-0 lead. On court No. 3, the Bulldogs' Vladyslav Yanchenko and Edgar Diaz defeated Stathis Tsiranidis and Carver Arant, 6-4. The Bears' No. 1 duo of Sam Philp and Olivier Stuart evened the odds with a 6-4 triumph over Jakub Vitek and Juan Ramirez. Mercer's No. 2 pairing of Nicolas Guillon and Ruben Vanoppen clinched the doubles competition with a 6-3 victory over Aleksa Daskalovic and Marcelo Rodriguez.

The Bears extended to a 2-0 lead as No. 2 Stuart downed Daskalovic in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2. The Bulldogs picked up their lone point of the afternoon as No. 4 Ramirez beat Guardia, 6-4, 6-4. On court No. 3, Guillon trumped Yanchenko, 6-1, 7-5. Mercer's No. 1 Philp clinched the match for Vitek with a 7-5, 7-5, victory. The Bears' No. 5 Vanoppen added another point for Mercer, besting Rodriguez, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2. Play was left unfinished on court No. 6.

The Bears will travel to Tallahassee, Fla. for a midweek non-conference clash with Florida A&M this Wednesday, April 11. Play is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
