From Start to Finish
Despite the last three games being closer than Mercer would have preferred, the Bears have led for the majority of the game. In the overtime game against Samford, Mercer led for 33:42 of the game. The last two games has seen Mercer lead for a combined 75:51 in the last 80 minutes play. Western Carolina and UNCG have led for a combined 54 seconds in the last two games, with the Spartans only holding to the advantage for just 0:23 in the 40 minute contest. The Bears hold an impressive 8-2 record when the Orange & Black lead for 30 minutes or more.
Â
SoCon Supremacy
Mercer finished 14-0 in the regular season last year against foes from the Southern Conference. The Bears carried that momentum into the tournament, posting a 3-0 mark against SoCon competitors in the conference tournament. Mercer has won 23 consecutive regular-season SoCon showdowns dating back to Feb. 4, 2017 when the run started with a 71-56 win over ETSU. Since joining the league, Mercer is 58-16 against SoCon opponents, including 50-13 in the regular season. The last team to defeat Mercer in the regular season was Chattanooga on Feb. 2, 2017.

Glad to Have You Back
LaKaitlin Wright made her season debut at the start of the SoCon schedule and has eased back into her role. In her debut against Samford, Wright played six minutes and finished with two points, one assist and one steal. The 6-3 sophomore really made her presence felt against UNCG on Saturday, logging a career-high 12 minutes and pulling down a career-best six rebounds. Wright also added three points and one block in the victory over the Spartans.
Â
Last Time Out
Mercer improved to 3-0 in Southern Conference action on Saturday with a 71-58 victory over the Spartans. The Bears were in control early on, taking a 17-8 advantage after the first quarter of play. Mercer then scored 13 of the first 16 points in the second quarter to force a UNCG timeout, leading 30-11. The Bears ended up taking a 21-point lead into the locker room, 39-18. Coming out of the gates, the Bears outscored the Spartans 17-12 for a game-high 26-point advantage. UNCG did not give up, cutting the Mercer lead to 18 with just under six minutes to play. The Spartans continued to chip away at the Bears' lead, trimming the advantage down to just 11 with 1:22 remaining in the contest. However, Mercer never relinquished the double-digit advantage following Calloway's jumper to push the lead to 13.
Â
KeKe Calloway led all scorers for the second consecutive game, posting 24 points on 10-of-21 from the field. Calloway was joined in the 20-point plateau by Amanda Thompson with 20 points and eight boards. Linnea Rosendal chipped in for 10 points, three rebounds and three assists.
