Bears Commence Three-Game Road Trip in Palmetto State

Mercer will square off with Wofford tomorrow at 6 p.m.
MACON, Ga. – The Mercer Women's Basketball team will take its five-game winning streak to Spartanburg, S.C. to take on the Wofford Terriers tomorrow at 6 p.m. inside Richardson Indoor Stadium. The game will feature the hottest team in the SoCon in the Bears against the top-shooting team in the conference in the Terriers.

Double-Double Duo
Amanda Thompson and Shannon Titus posted a pair of double-doubles in the 64-41 win against ETSU on Saturday in Hawkins Arena. Amanda Thompson finished the game with 14 points and 12 rebounds, while also dishing out three dimes. The double-double was Thompson's 11th of the season and 14th of her career. The senior captain was joined by Titus with 17 points and 12 rebounds for her first collegiate double-double. Titus also added three assists, three blocks and three steals in the win. The duo became the first pair of Bears to obtain a double-double in the same game since Sydni Means and Alex Williams against Furman on Jan. 19, 2017.

Balanced Attack
KeKe Calloway and Amanda Thompson continue to pace the team in scoring this season, averaging 18.2 and 13.5 points per game. However, you cannot leave out Shannon Titus and Linnea Rosendal in the equation. Titus is now averaging 10.4 points per game and Rosendal is piling in 9.1 points. Rosendal finished with 15 points against ETSU on Saturday, knocking down four three pointers.

Punishing the Palmetto State
Mercer has seen plenty of success recently against teams from South Carolina. Mercer has yet to square off against a team from the Palmetto State this season, but did finish 1-1 at the Coastal Carolina Thanksgiving Classic. The Bears have finished 6-0 against teams from South Carolina in each of the last three seasons. Mercer has won 21 consecutive showdowns against Palmetto State opponents, including 17 straight victories against SoCon foes Wofford and Furman. Since joining the Southern Conference, the Bears are an impressive 22-2 against South Carolina opponents. The last loss against a Palmetto State competitor was a 58-55 home loss against Furman on Jan. 19, 2015.

Last Time Out
Mercer dominated ETSU in convincing fashion, claiming the 64-41 victory over the Bucs. The Bears held ETSU to a season-low 41 points in addition to the second-lowest shooting percentage of the season (.280). Mercer held ETSU to nine points in the first quarter before being held to just four points in the second as the Bucs took a 20-18 lead heading into halftime. From then, it was all Mercer as the Bears outscored the Bucs 21-11 for the 39-31 advantage heading into the final quarter of play. The Bears put the game out of reach in the fourth quarter, scoring the first five points to force an ETSU timeout. Mercer then poured in six unanswered after the timeout, capping off an 11-0 run to start the fourth quarter. After the Bucs scored four of the next six points, Mercer put the game away for good with a 9-0 run for the 61-35 lead.

The Bears received a big boost from sophomore guard Shannon Titus, scoring 17 points and pulling down 12 rebounds for her first double-double. Amanda Thompson joined Titus in the double-double category with 14 points and 12 rebounds for her 11th double-double of the season and 14th of her career. Linnea Rosendal finished with 15 points, knocking down four three pointers.
