
Mercer Men’s Tennis Opens 2019 Spring Season

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer men's tennis team will open their 2019 Spring Schedule with a double-header in the Sunshine State this Thursday, Jan. 10. The Bears will first face off with the Florida A&M Rattlers before taking on top-ranked ACC foe FSU later that day.

Scouting the Rattlers
Florida A&M posted an overall record of 5-11 last season, going 3-1 in conference play. The Rattlers fell in the opening round of the MEAC Tournament, falling to Hampton, 4-3. Florida A&M is coached by Rochelle Goldthreate.
Scouting the Seminoles
The No. 20 ranked Seminoles will first take on Georgia Southern earlier in the day to open their 2019 campaign before matching up with the Bears. The Seminoles finished the 2018 season with a 28-5 overall record, posting a 16-1 home record. Florida State advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament where they fell to Alabama, 4-2. The Seminoles No. 1 seeded player, Aziz Dougaz, heads into the season with a 51-26 career singles record and a 47-23 career doubles record. Dougaz was ranked 15th in the 2018 preseason rankings. Florida State is coached by Dwayne Hultquist who enters his 20th season at the helm.

The men's team will return to action when they travel to Tulsa, Okla. to compete against Tulsa on Jan. 15, 2019.
