Mercer scores four in second half to win

MACON, Ga. – Trailing 1-0 going into halftime, the Mercer women's soccer team tallied four second half goals en route to a 4-2 win over The Citadel on Thursday evening at Betts Stadium. The four goals scored by Mercer in the second half are the most goals scored in a half by the Bears this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Early in the SoCon battle the Bulldogs and Bears traded punches as each team had opportunities to score early but the goalkeepers stood tall and recorded the saves. The Bulldogs struck first in the match when they scored in the 44^th minute taking a 1-0 lead into halftime.

Mercer came back and scored its first goal in the 51^st minute. Hayley Moore had a shot go off the crossbar and Amaya Evans beat everyone to the ball and scored. However, the game did not stay tied for long as Logan Dix scored for the Bulldogs taking a 2-1 lead.

Following the goal, the Bears scored the final three goals of the match. Sarah Adcock scored the Bears second goal tying the game at 2-2. The third goal for Mercer came in the 81^st minute when Abigail Zoeller took a corner kick and Megan Delmonico was on the back post and scored. Nicole Icen added one more goal for Mercer in the 84^th minute and the Bears came away with a 4-2 victory.

NOTABLES

Mercer scored all four of its goals in the second half. Two goals came after the 80^th minute.
Four different Bears scored a goal in the match and four different Bears picked up an assist.
Entering the match, Mercer had scored 23 goals. With the four tonight, they have now scored 27 goals this season, the most in the SoCon.
Mercer outshot the Bulldogs 25-10 in the match; however, shots on goal were even at nine.
The Bears took 13 corner kicks in the win over The Citadel. This is the second most they have taken in a single game this year.

UP NEXT
The Bears return to Betts Stadium on Friday, Oct. 11 when they host Chattanooga in SoCon action. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
