Bears Fall 13-10 To Canisius In Home Opener

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer men's lacrosse team was unable to hold off a second half surge from Canisius and lost a close 13-10 game Saturday afternoon in the Bears' home opener at Five Star Stadium.
How It Happened
The Bears jumped out to an early 3-0 lead on goals from Will McCarthy, Sean Goldsmith and Nick Rockefeller. Canisius came roaring back to tie the score at 3-3 early in the second period. The Bears were ahead 6-4 at the halftime break.
Mercer took a 9-7 lead after three periods but it was all Canisius in the final frame, as the Golden Griffins outscored the Bears 6-1 in the fourth period to gain the 13-10 victory. Canisius outshot the Bears 29-14 in the second half and scored three unanswered goals in the game's final 6:31 to seal the win. Mathi Boissonneault led the Golden Griffins to the win by netting five goals on the afternoon.

» Pascal Coombs and John Tarver each scored two goals for the Bears, while Sean Goldsmith had one goal and two assists.
» Josh Tarver and Bradley Hodoval each saw time in between the pipes, combining for seven saves.
