Sean Goldsmith nets hat trick in loss
MACON, Ga. – The Mercer men's lacrosse team went scoreless in a critical second quarter as it fell to visiting Cleveland State, 12-8, at Five Star Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Â
Mercer (0-4) dropped its fourth match of the season despite a six-goal second half. Cleveland State earned its second win of the year, improving to 2-4.
How It Happened
The Bears owned a 2-1 advantage at the end of the first quarter after an extra-man goal by Sean Goldsmith – who netted a hat trick – and Michael Quinn's fourth goal of the season. Nick Rockefeller and Mikey Ewing added assists on the Bears' two first-quarter goals.
Â
Cleveland State rallied over the next 20 minutes, outscoring Mercer, 5-0, in the second quarter to take a 6-2 lead into the intermission.
