Mercer Comes Up Short At Delaware Losing 10-9

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer men's lacrosse team fell 10-9 to a very tough University of Delaware squad Wednesday afternoon at Delaware Stadium. The Bears are still searching for their first victory (0-5) while Delaware improves to 5-1.
How It Happened
Mercer's Nick Rockefeller scored a goal at the 14:28 mark of the opening period to give the Bears an early 1-0 lead. Delaware's Charlie Kitchen scored the first of his five goals with 10:20 remaining to knot the score at 1-1. Mercer's Pascal Coombs put the Bears back on top with a goal at the 8:57 mark before Delaware netted three straight goals to grab a 4-2 advantage. Mercer rallied back with two goals to tie the score 4-4 after the first period.Â
The Bears took a 7-6 lead into halftime on a late goal by John Tarver. Coombs scored again with 9:22 remaining in the third to give Mercer an 8-6 lead. Back-to-back goals by Kitchen tied the score at 8-8. Delaware's Ty Kurtz put the Blue Hens out in front 9-8 with a goal at the 1:25 mark of the third period. Mercer's Michael Quinn scored with 13:53 left in the game to tie the score at 9-9. Kitchen netted the game-winner with 3:59 to go to lift Delaware to the hard-fought victory.
