Bears Aim for Road Win at Richmond

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer men's lacrosse team will play Southern Conference foe Richmond at 1 p.m. Saturday at Robins Stadium in Richmond, Va.

The penultimate regular season contest for the Bears will be streamed live on ESPN+ and have live stats available. Mercer (1-10, 1-4 SoCon) is looking to snap a three-match skid as it takes on the Spiders (7-5, 4-1).

SERIES HISTORY
Mercer is 1-5 against the Spiders in six all-time meetings and has only faced Richmond once on the road, coming in 2017. The Bears won the first head-to-head clash between the two programs in 2014, but have lost five straight since.

ABOUT THE BEARS

Mercer ranks second in the SoCon in faceoff percentage (.567), largely due to the play of freshman Ashton Wood. A two-time SoCon Defensive Player of the Week, Wood is second in the league in ground balls per game (6.18) and faceoff percentage (.607).
Wood set SoCon single-match records of 19 ground balls and 29 faceoff wins at Furman two weeks ago.
Michael Quinn and Sean Goldsmith lead Mercer with 30 and 29 points, respectively. Quinn owns a team-best 20 goals.
Quinn, Goldsmith and Pascal Coombs all have a team-high 10 assists.
Pascal Coombs has nine assists to lead the team.
Josh Tarver enters Saturday's match with a .502 save percentage.

SCOUTING RICHMOND
The Spiders own one of the SoCon's best offenses, averaging 11.67 goals per game. Richmond has won three of its last five matches despite a 14-7 loss at Air Force last Saturday. A difficult schedule has included four top-10 nationally-ranked opponents, including Maryland, Notre Dame, Duke and Virginia. The Spiders did take down Notre Dame, 9-8, at home on Feb. 23.

Ryan Lanchbury is tied for the second most points in the league with 52 (39 goals, 13 assists) through 12 matches played.
